East and West Contact and Dialogue:
International Conference of Contemporary China Studies (2018)
On May 2 to 3, 2017, the Confucius Institute of University of León, sponsored by Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarter) in cooperation with University of León, Spain and Xiangtan University, China held “International Conference of Contemporary China Studies: East and West Contact and Dialogue” with participants from Spain, China, UK, France, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, Singapore, Lithuania, Demark, Brazil, etc., 12 countries and areas.
The conference, had the goal to provide a platform for an academic discussion of the various topics in China studies, to bring together several generations and fields of scholars from all over the world to exchange views and ideas on dealing with contemporary China studies such international promotion of Chinese language, teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages; contrastive study of Chinese language and European languages; foreign language translation of Chinese classical works, Culture and International Relations; history of early exchanges between China and Europe; Social change and multiculturalism in globalization context, contemporary Chinese literature and translation.
After welcoming words by the President of University of León, Prof. Juan Francisco García Marín, vice President of University of León, Prof. Roberto Baelo Álvarez, Director of Education Session, Chinese Embassy in Spain, Dr. Zhong Xiwei, and Spanish and Chinese Director of Confucius Institute of University of León, open the conference.
Nine keynotes in the fields of Confucius Institutes studies, linguistics, Chinese history, Chinese immigrants in Spain, teaching Chinese to the speakers of other languages, contemporary China studies in Spain, and translation of Chinese classics into Spanish language were presented:
